Mill’s Colossal Equestrian Statue of General Andrew Jackson, Dedicated to the American Army and the People of the United States.
Not on Display
The lithograph presents Clark Mills’ equestrian statue of General Andrew Jackson in front of the White House in Washington, D.C. The equestrian statue was erected in 1853 and was the first statue in the country to be cast in bronze. Mills also gained recognition because his Jackson statue was also the first equestrian statue in the world to be balanced solely on the horse’s hind legs. The inscription on the pedestal was placed on the west side in 1909, not on the north side as shown in this print.
