Death of President Lincoln at Washington, D.C., April 15, 1865, Nation’s Martyr.

Not on Display

After John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln in his box at Ford’s Theater, three physicians who were also attending the play carried the president across 10th Street to a rear bedroom in Petersen’s boarding house. This print shows most of Lincoln’s cabinet at the deathbed, as well as Mary Todd Lincoln, Robert Lincoln, Clara Harris, and his physicians. Chief Justice Salmon Chase, shown on the far left, was not actually present at the deathbed, nor was Tad, Lincoln’s younger son.
