Souvenir wall paper from the Ford’s Theater booth.

Not on Display

After President Lincoln’s assassination on April 14, 1865, the public desired physical items associated with the martyred president. Mourners and souvenir hunters tore pieces of carpet and wallpaper from the presidential box where John Wilkes Booth had fatally ambushed the president. This piece of wallpaper shown here is an example of a souvenir from the presidential box at Ford’s Theatre. Included with the wallpaper, is an envelope titled “Lincoln wallpaper” and an attached sheet of paper describing the envelope’s contents.
